GROW YOUR IMPACT.
GROW YOUR PRACTICE.
GROW YOUR PROFIT.
I'm equal parts Heart-Whisperer & Growth Guru with whole lot of business-ninja sprinkled on top.
I help therapists, just like you, who are tired of accepting less-than in their private practice and are ready to make money doing exactly what you love doing.
As a fellow clinician and 4-time private practice owner, plus a few other businesses to boot, I know that going into business for yourself can be simultaneously the most empowering and the scariest thing you'll ever do.
I also know that self-doubt can rear its ugly head from time to time.
I understand first-hand the fear and frustration of not having enough clients (I've been there, suffered that, and walked away with just a few too many participant t-shirts.).
Add to that the demands of running your own business—all those business and marketing tasks—and the dream of having a successful private practice can seem almost impossible.
Like every therapist I've ever met, I wasn't taught how to run a practice--how to start and launch and grow and sustain a business--in grad school.
Sure, I was trained in all the myriad ways to help alleviate my client's suffering, but I had absolutely no idea how to end my own private practice suffering--you know, that suffering when you have no idea how to fill your empty calendar?
I made a ton of mistakes in the early years. I was afraid to market; I had absolutely no business systems in place; I had no idea how to communicate the worth of what I was providing. I didn’t know how to network and certainly had no idea how to use the internet to connect with potential clients.
But I buckled down and learned just about everything I could about business and traditional marketing (networking, writing for newspapers, local speaking engagements, and what-not).
Several years ago, and about 6 months into a new practice—and wondering if there was an easier way to market—a FB ad from my local attorney caught my eye, and I thought, “Can I do that as a therapist?”
I was intrigued.
I dug deeply into learning digital marketing, social media marketing, SEO, and everything in between (because what else does a philomath do?)
Then I began to test what I was learning. Surprisingly to me, it worked. My practice grew, filled with cash paying, ideal clients. Colleagues began to notice.
I wondered what else could I do?
I took the next logical step: I challenged myself to launch an online counseling practice in a large, saturated city. I decided to do 100% online marketing: no in-person marketing; no networking; no mailers; no business cards; no local speaking engagements. 100% online using social media. I gave myself a deadline of 90 days.
And it worked so well that in less than 12 hours my website was hit over 2000 times.
Here’s the thing: As therapists, we work hard. There is no other industry that requires such advanced training without parallel pay. Therapists’ income is at the bottom of the barrel.
I feel strongly that we need to change that. I believe strongly that learning the strategies and skills to build a profitable and thriving practice, that connects well with clients, and that increases our footprint and impact, is essential.
For this reason, I now carry the message of hope and prosperity to other therapists… all wrapped up in a couple of neat little practice-building bundles. You can learn a bit more about each of these here: Practice Makes Profits™ & Successful Online Therapist: Marketing Made Easy™.
I once was called “Pollyanna” on a Reddit post when I encouraged a grad student to consider private practice. I’m good with that. In fact, I believe mindset is more than 90% of the battle when it comes to success.
So if I’m not munching on inspirational quotes for breakfast, or silently contemplating how to help therapists thrive, I can usually be found doing a few things I love most: Rocking out a yoga pose or two. Traveling with my hubby and itty-bitty pups. Singing the wrong lyrics to 80’s metal music.
